What is aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the term used to describe the use of essential oils extracted from plants for therapeutic use - whether that be physical, emotional or spiritual.

How are essential oils produced?

Most oils are produced by a process known as steam distillation from various parts of the plant including the wood, leaves and flowers depending on the plant.

What is the difference between essential oils and fragrant oils?

Essential oils are naturally produced by the plant and are extracted in such a way as to minimize any chance of adulteration.  Fragrant oils, on the other hand, are artificially produced.  While you may enjoy the fragrance of some, they do not compare to the natural beauty of true essential oils and do not share any of the same therapeutic benefits.

What is so special about using native Australian essential oils?

We are blessed in Australia to have a wonderful range of plants which produce essential oils with many therapeutic effects as well as beautiful fragrances.   These oils, when used together, produce amazing synergy which can be experienced through our carefully selected blends.

I am pregnant/breastfeeding.  Are essential oils safe for me to use?

Some essential oils are safe to use during pregnancy, but others are not.   This is because they can affect hormone levels or else affect the development of the baby.  Make sure you read the safety information before using any essential oils during pregnancy.  If in doubt, it is better to be safe than sorry.

Is it safe to use essential oils on my children?

Many essential oils are safe to use with children however a few are not, especially those which act on the nervous system.   When using oils with children, always use very low doses and make sure you read the safety information first.

Can I ingest (eat/drink) essential oils?

Some companies will tell you that their essential oils are safe to ingest, however we do not recommend this.   Essential oils contain many powerful chemical components which can be toxic if ingested.   You should never take the oils internally unless under the strict supervision of a fully qualified practitioner of aromatic medicine.
